I no longer have a roadworthy car under 140k miles, which is odd as all the non-roadworthy ones are a lot lower. How well travelled is your fleet? My 4 drivers combined are up to 624000 combined miles :)

My car is at around 104,000kms at the moment. Old one got to 170,000kms before I sold it...stupid salted roads in the winter...

My two vehicles have a combined 273k miles on them. My wife’s 2015 CX-5 we bought in Nov of 2014 hasn’t hit 5k miles yet. She’s not good at sharing.

Nice recognition ;)

Yeah I hate the fact that they chuck salt on the roads here in the UK at the barest hint that there might be snow.

What's your current car, and what was your last one?

2001 Outback with 95,000mi

2013 BRZ <20,000mi

2010 Legacy 80,000mi

Oddly the Mini is in the best condition outside of the BRZ. The outback is rotting due to New England winters and my mom puts a ton of miles on her legacy and is not automoively inclined meaning you end up behind on wear items.

Just 2 of our cars: My LS400- 297,000 miles, the extra RX400h - 340,000 miles. We have 8 total with the lowest being the 2014 Tundra with 36,000. Nobody can beat that.

Yeah I’m a firm believer that once cars get over about a decade old it’s a lot wiser to buy ones with slightly higher mileage, or at least mileage that means they’re doing a solid 8-10k a year.

They’re usually the ones that have had wear items replaced, the kinks ironed out and just general maintenance more likely to have been done.

If you go buying 10yr old cars with 30k on the clock you end up with old oil cos it's been years between mileage intervals and people tend to ignore the time intervals. Not to mention cracking tyres and bushes.

My 2011 Twingo is around 56k km, or around 35k miles for those stuck in the past. Mind you it was just around 13k km when I got it 3 years ago, so that’s part of the reason why it’s so low.

340k and nearly 300k! That’s bloody impressive :)

If I broadened it to the entire family we might be able to contend, although that would be from sheer quantity of vehicles rather than individual high milers (at the last count we've got 25 cars, a van, a horse lorry and 5 motorbikes!).

How is the Twingo actually? I’ve always liked that generation of them :) nice clean design.

And personally I cling to a random mix of metric and imperial measurements, mainly due to whimsy ;) I estimate small distances in mm, slightly larger in inches, anything up to ~6ft in feet, anything bigger in metres and large distances in miles.

Well it’s quite fun for a city car, quite chuckable, probably due to its relatively light weight of only 840 kg, and because it is based on a shortened Clio chassis, it handles like a bigger car, especially compared to true A-segment cars like the Aygo/C1/107. Since it is a city car it’s not really designed for how I use it, 90% highway, though it still gets around 18 km to the litre (50 mpg(imperial)) so that’s always nice.

I’m really glad I bought it instead of the Fiesta I wanted, because it is way cheaper to run, while handling almost as good. Also it looks quite sporty, especially with the roof spoiler and boomerang stripes, among other black accents, I just need to find some bigger dark grey or black wheels for it.

Kinja'd!!!

Doesn’t using all those units together lead to a big mess? ;)

Surprisingly not. I never really mix them, but I can picture 2" much easier than, say, 40cm. When I’m actually measuring properly it’s in metric, although if it’s only rough I’ll use whichever one is closest to an easily remembered unit.

Yeah definitely a great choice with the Twingo :) and I'll say it again, they're such a well designed look. Really clean, and sporty looking :)

Thanks!

The combination of metric and imperial is just odd to me, however I think that’s just because I use metric for everything, because mainland Europe. But I also use the metric that is closest, so I get why you use both, and then just pick the closest one.

Your right it’ll be hard to find ones that aren’t Toyota or Honda, as you can run those into the ground and they’ll keep going.

The one thing you will find is the domestic 250/2500 and up diesels (duramax, powerstroke, and cummins) will get to the 400k+ no problem. The other are older GM large SUVs mainly Suburbans. Go to a major cities Craigslist and you find at least 2 for sale with 300k+

Haha, yep, got me confused. We’re both Dutch but as Duurtlang mentioned I live in Canada these days (and have for 14 years as of tomorrow). The cars we own are a funny coincidence though, I can’t blame you for the confusion. No Peugeots for me just yet, though if the Canadian dollar wasnt so in the doldrums as it is, I’d seriously consider importing a 205GTI.

1956 MG A Roadster: 77k (only a 5 digit odometer, but I’d be surprised if anyone was mad enough to take it to 177k!)

Current car is definitely nothing special, but it’s been reliable - 2009 Hyundai Accent hatchback (they sold the generation [LC] before it in the UK, but you guys never got this one [MC] and got the i20 instead).

Kinja'd!!!

My last car was a 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5TS wagon:

Kinja'd!!!

Sold the Subie when the rear subframe rusted out/cracked. The guy I sold it to had the equipment and garage to do his own work and owned the exact same car in red with a rusted-out body, but the subframe was good. He swapped his subframe onto the body of my car and drove it for 2 years before he found out the rear strut towers were rusted out and he scrapped it....sad end :(

No signs whatsoever of rust on teh Hyundai yet though!

Unfortunately Ontario makes RHD fairly difficult/costly to insure, otherwise I’d happily have one, along with something JDM. There’s a couple of GT-Rs running around that we never got and we’ve got first dibs (15 years) before the Americans do (25 years) as well as a few importers willing to do the job. It’s awfully tempting, especially when I’ve got a downpayment on a home that I could (but shouldn’t) cannibalize.

Yep, it’s been around the block a few times. It had a full drivetrain rebuild around 120k, and was generally very well looked after, so it still feels pretty fresh. If I didn’t know the history of it, it could easily pass for a rough-ish 106k.

The 2500TC that my parents had for many years (and I learned to drive in) did similarly well. It was around the same mileage when rust did it in, and I’m pretty sure it never so much as had the head off. It definitely felt rather the worse for wear by that point, though.

Don’t you worry, there are multiple articles in the works ;). Problem is, I keep on getting distracted by tinkering with it!
